Acknowledgment of Kathryn Abbe

Kathryn Abbe produced most of the photographs that appear in these digital archives. She actively photographed Friends Academy from the 1960s to 1990s. Starting her career in the 1940, she was one of the first internationally successful female photographers. Her work was published in VogueTown & Country, and Better Homes and Gardens. Parent to alumni and a member of the Board of Trustees, she sought to document life at Friends Academy in black and white. A student wrote in a June 1976 issue of The Inkwell that "over the years as she has gotten to know us, we have become used to seeing her around, with camera in hand, catching our most candid expressions and spontaneous actions in Quaker Meeting, during play rehearsals, and at other school activities. We've become accustomed to seeing ourselves in 'black and white.' (We even enjoy it!)."
